PROGRAM

Most of the meeting was devoted to a special presentation by Rotary International vice president Mike McGovern, town manager of Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

He detailed Rotary's resurgent effort to eradicate polio. He said when Rotary's Polio Plus began 350,000 people still had the paralyzing disease. Now, he says the number is 1,000 in four countries. In terms of dollars and lives, he said 500,000 people are not crippled because of the $600 million Rotary program. He reminded Rotarians that Rotary's contribution is part of a $4 billion international program involving national governments and international aid agencies like the United Nations.

McGovern came to northeast Wisconsin to participate in the President-elect Training Seminar and he also accepted an invitation from his cousin, Dr. Skip McGovern to speak to the Green Bay club.
